Yeshivat Lev HaTorah is a religious-Zionist yeshiva in Ramat Beit Shemesh, for gap-year students, men only.
Yeshivat Lev HaTorah is a full-time Torah learning program dedicated to developing independent, lifelong bnei Torah. Through serious Torah study, exceptional rebbe-student relationships, and a culture of personal growth, each student is guided to discover his own authentic path within Torah, one that speaks to him deeply and inspires a lasting connection to Hashem. Our students acquire the skills, confidence, and character to continue growing in Torah long after they leave the beit midrash, while developing a deep commitment to Eretz Yisrael, Medinat Yisrael, and the responsibility every Jew shares for the future of Klal Yisrael. As a Hesder yeshiva, Lev HaTorah offers students the opportunity to continue their growth through advanced years of Torah learning or to combine their learning with meaningful service in the IDF. Through our Lev LaChayal program, students who enlist receive ongoing guidance, advocacy, and personal support, with the yeshiva serving as a home and family for lone soldiers throughout their service.

Lev HaTorah is for young men who are looking for more than just a year in yeshiva. It is for students who want to build a lifelong relationship with Torah, even if they are still discovering what that relationship looks like. Some of our talmidim arrive passionate about Gemara and eager to immerse themselves in the beit midrash. Others are searching for the area of Torah that will ignite their hearts. We believe that every student has an authentic place within Torah, and our role is to help him discover it. Our ideal talmid is curious, humble, and eager to grow. He values meaningful relationships with his rebbeim, wants to challenge himself intellectually and spiritually, and is ready to take ownership of his own development. Whether his journey leads him to advanced years of learning, service in the IDF through our Lev LaChayal program, or both, he wants Torah to become the foundation upon which he builds his life. How much did your experience depend on which specific staff/rabbis/madrichim you got?
It’s less about who you get and more about who you choose to connect to. Every rabbi has different perspectives on life and you yourself need to figure out what and who to look for
It's important to put yourself in the right classes. All the Rabbis are great, but different in their own way. If you want to really enjoy and make the most of your year you need to make sure to customize it to your liking. I thi k all theadrichim were great. I don't it mattered which one you got. Overall the staff is very nice, warm, and helpful.
How much prior Torah learning background did you need to keep up?
I'm not sure. They have different tracks for different people. I don't know what the minimum amount of knowledge you need to go in. I think it's quite low, even someone with very little learning background can do very well and grow a lot.
How much free time do you have outside of a learning schedule?
I think we have exactly the right amount of free time. Enough to decompress and enjoy other things when needed, but no so much that it negatively impacts your learning
The days were full but not to long. Tuesday nights were free, and so we're Fridays. Thursday night we had Mishmar, so there was less time on that day. Overall, I feel it was very well balanced. I had enough time to have fun and relax, without having too much time to get bored or feel unproductive.
How much were you accompanied and mentored through the service?
If you are not combat you are left alone for the most part- however the combat guys felt very taken care of
How was the food, realistically, day to day?
Breakfast depnded on the day. Sometimes it was great and sometimes it was just cerial and granola. Lunch was usually very good. Dinner was good and sometimes just alright.
How would you rate the living conditions?
I felt it was very satisfactory. It wasn't fancy, it was alright.
How much privacy/personal space did you have?
It depends on what type of room and bed you got. I was lucky enough not get a bunk bed. My room was set up in a way that we had enough space to feel good.
How much did the hebrew that you learned in the program stick or fade?
Stuck very well
How available are resources for learning hebrew, (ie ulpan)?
It may be avaliable upon request during Shana Aleph, its mainly for Shana bet. I am not sure though.
How much did the program strengthen your intention to build a life in Israel?
It definitely made me strongly consider taking part and building a life in Israel. Even though I do not plan on making alyiah, I feel more deeply connected with Israel and the nation.
How easily did you find people you clicked with?
There are guys who are a different speed and hard to connect with but overall, especially in the army program, it’s great similarly minded guys
Was the program what you expected, or different?
There’s a negative stigma about the people who go but honestly everyone is unbelievably nice, with the best intentions. Also the yeshiva can be very serious if you are looking for that path
How much did the program push you out of your comfort zone?
That’s because of my connection to my rebbe- it’s less about the program as a whole and more about what you make of iy
Through the classes and trips I had a chance to make an effort to build relationships and try new things. I was never pushed to do anything I was not comfortable with doing.
Did the learning translate into something you kept doing after the program?
It's became e a part of my to be involved in learning. I don't adhere to the same specific studies that i was involved in during yeshiva, but am engaged on a regular basis with thought provoking and uplifting material.
How well did the program prepare you for the army?
Shana Aleph was not the year that they really push army. Going on into hesder was definitely was glorified and many people were inspired to take part in the post Shana Aleph hesder part of yeshiva. But, in Shana Aleph their focus was not preparing everyone for the army.
How meaningful was that Army preparation to you personally?
Even though I did not decided to draft, they did make me think about it.
