I came to the mechina wanting to draft machal and serve for a year and a half but already after my first couple of months I decided to make Aliyah and do a full, meaningful service

My connection to Israel before arriving was pretty good so felt like it stayed the same

At the end of the day there’s a decently sized American program and many English speakers so you end up speaking a decent amount of English. However in my second year I decided to make a much greater emphasis on learning Hebrew and speaking to Israelis which was when my Hebrew really improved

I arrived to keshet with not a word of Hebrew, and by the end of the year I was having ok conversations with my roommates, I also stayed for Shana Bet which is another half a year and when I finished then I was having full conversations and had no problems understanding when I arrived to the army

Every rabbi has a different approach to different subjects so you simply have to find which one is for you and you are fine

You don’t have any places to go to in a moshav so either it was playing sports on the court down the road or going to the next place over and getting some food and coming back

I arrived to keshet with a basic learning background and I was able to keep up and if every now and then I needed to slow down a little I would speak to the rabbi and we would figure out what to do from there

You have a pretty packed schedule but you have a nice break in the afternoon as well as in the evening at reasonable hours for time to calm down before bed

Out of my room of 8 people which stayed strong for both first year and second 6 went to commando/sayeret the other went to an elite intelligence unit, also most have gone on to be commanders in these units

It is your average Israeli yeshiva food, good prep for getting used to the army food

They have a newly built dorm building, each room has a toilet and shower, and you share a spacious room with 8/9 people each with there own closet

Israelis do like to get close but you get used to it and if you don’t want you just move away as you will be fine, there is lots of space in the mechina and on the moshav which you can be by yourselves

Keshet believes in responsibility at the end of the day you are preparing to join the army and that requires a lot of it , but you are still in an institution so there is still that level of teacher student difference

There is Ulpan but for me the really way I learned was from my friends and roommates because they are all Israeli and you pick it up from hearing around, (recommended taking a pocket size notebook and writing new words that you hear and practicing after )
