Reviews

Would you recommend it to a friend?

While it’s not perfect, it is definitely the best lone soldier program by far

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2025

How much did your Hebrew actually improve, honestly, by the end?

Hebrew improved quite significantly, some parts due to garin tzabar but mostly through the army

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2024

How much did your experience depend on which specific staff/rabbis/madrichim you got?

The people in your garin will drastically influence your experience in garin tzabar , having a good garin can make you feel like you have a family to come home and friends that are always there for you.

How much were you treated as an adult vs. managed like a student?

During perek klita you will feel like your getting treated like a student, the second you draft into the army tho, you will be given all the freedom on the world

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2024

How much did the program guide and support you through actually signing up and drafting?

Totally walked me through the whole process, very grateful

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2025

How was the food, realistically, day to day?

You as a garin cook all your meals

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2024

On kibbutz, amazing. In the army...can't promise anything

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2025

How much did the hebrew that you learned in the program stick or fade?

It gave me a base so I started Michve Alon with something

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2025

How available are resources for learning hebrew, (ie ulpan)?

Every day we had ulpan

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2025

How much of the day did you need to use Hebrew vs. able to fall back on English?

Speaking Hebrew is a requirement with the mashakiot tzabar, and most likely your Madrich, but with your own garin you will probably only be speaking Hebrew

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2024

In perek klitah(pre-draft) you can speak whatever you want

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2025

Did the program give you a real social circle of Israelis to lean on?

Aside from your host family, it is completely up to you to build those connections

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2024

Overall, how was the program?

It is amazing at helping you start your community in Israel with the host families and connecting with other lone soldiers but you should not rely on the promises it makes when it comes to the army

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2025

How meaningful was that Army preparation to you personally?

They really did their best, but no matter what it will always be different than you were expecting, in mostly good ways

— Alumnus of Garin Tzabar, attended 2025

General reviews

Garin tzabar is an incredible program designed to help the individual as much as possible to have a smooth and easy draft whilst having a support system in place for when they come home from the army Grayed this program is not flawless but it’s the best there is and I would highly recommend
